SAY HI TO ILARIA FACCIOLI

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU

Hi Girlz! My name is Ilaria, I was born and raised in Verona. At 19, after a crazy experience in Art School, I moved to Milan to attend an Illustration course in IED. I still live in Milan and it feels good. Since a few years I decided to move outside the city centre, in the Parco Agricolo, close to the amazing Abbazia di Chiaravalle.

I work as an illustrator, mainly for editorial clients and together with my partner Lele we do run a graphic design studio called "Due mani non bastano".

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT DAYDREAM OR OBSESSION?

Accordingly to the world pandemics I have to confess that I've never dreamed so intensely to travel abroad!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE BREAKFAST?

Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffeeeeee. And three slices of toasted bread with jam (exclusively home made).

HOW IS YOUR DAILY ROUTINE?

Wake up with the kids, we have breakfast all together, then we rush to the school -luckily it is literally behind the corner- and then work. Five years ago we decided to leave our studio in Porta Romana and to renovate our house designing a space devoted to our profession. That renovation has become a revelation: we can work from home, host meetings and clients and handle the kids easily.

LAST BOOK RED?

Guardare le Figure” (it's third time) by Hamelin.

LAST ILLUSTRATED BOOK?

Ti conosco Mascherina” by Ilaria Capua. An illustrated book that explains viruses and especially the Corona Virus to children.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DRAW?

That’s a very looooong list. I would like to design and illustrate a clothing line for children; I would like to illustrate for music; I would like to paint on a very large surface such as the façade of a building. Yeah, that would really be a dream that comes true!

DO YOU LIKE TO COOK?

Sometimes it’s love, sometimes it’s hate. I get bored quite easily of my dishes, that’s the reason why I buy so many cook books.

LAST THING YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE FIRST TIME?

I freshly realized my childhood’s dream of buying roller skates. I can’t wait for Spring to come to skate for hours. We will finally become a “family on wheels”: Giulio, Lele and Bianca with their boards and me following with my roller skates.

FAVOURITE SEASON?

Autumn. Still, my favourite foods is Summer foods.

DID YOU MAKE ANY GOOD INTENTION DURING THESE HARSH TIMES?

I hate the yearly good intentions’ list, it’s a guaranteed failure. But this time has seriously taught us we have to live intensely every single day, and by intensely I do not mean to work work work, but to listen and take care of myself. My point is to find a daily spot to realize my daily interest: read, paint, cook or doing nothing at all.

WHAT HAS CHANGED IN YOUR DAILY LIFE DURING LOCKDOWN?

The daily -family- routine is not so different but sociability has crashed. Before lockdown I was used to have lunch weekly with my friends, drink an aperitivo, movies, exhibitions, dinners out... all the activities that nurtured the soul have vanished.

ARE YOU PLANNING A NEW EDITION OF CREATIVE WORKSHOP AS IN THE FIRST LOCKDOWN?

The workshop came out spontaneously without planning, and they became quite soon a recurring appointment, but I have never thought to repeat that experience. I will certainly sort out a new idea.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST IN WORKING WITH CHILDREN?

It will sound cheesy, but I do love the freshness, the sincerity and the spontaneity of children. I miss doing wokrshop with them, it has always been a gratifying experience.

DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY SONG, SOUNDTRACK, MOTTO OR HABIT?

We dance a lot, we seriously dance a lot! We have many family’s playlists with our favourite artists: N.E.R.D., Nirvana, Lizzo, Blur, Erykah Badu, Phoenix, Cosmo, Daft Punk, Beastie Boys and many many more...

WHAT RELATIONSHIP DO YOU HAVE WITH NATURE?

As soon as possible, we will try to spend some time in nature: walking in the woods or going to the beach (for the Summer holidays). Still, I can’t say I am experiencing nature enough as I would love to. It’s for sure one of my main objective for the next future.

WE DO KNOW YOU HAVE AN ARCHIVE OF FASHION GEMS, WHICH PIECE ARE YOU MOST ATTACHED TO?

A Miu Miu slingback shoes from one of my most favourite Collection, maybe from 1999.

AND THE MOST ABSURD?

A blue and silver paillettes blouse with a butterfly cut. I wore it twice (and not for the Carnival).

WHAT RELATIONSHIP DO YOU HAVE WITH WARDROBE?

It’s love and hate! Three days I’m confident and happy, and then the fourth I am not.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PIECES?

T-shirts, sweaters and shoes.

IS THERE ANY FORBIDDEN COLOR IN YOUR WARDROBE?

Purple.

DO YOU HAVE ANY AMULET/DRESS HIDDEN IN YOUR CLOSET?

Mmmm… no, my rings are my amulets. I would say an old foulard belonged to my grandmother.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST SARTORIA VICO’S GARMENT?

Time travel: let’s go back to 20 years ago: my first SV was a wool hat in a wonderful wisteria color that I ruined some years after by felting it in a bad wash :-( I remember my love for the Sciarpone -the scarf with sleeves- I bought three of them. I literally wore them out.

DESCRIBE SARTORIA VICO IN A FEW WORDS.

Warmth, essentiality, high quality.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ITEM (AMONG THOSE CHOSEN)?

That’s two of them: the cloud turtleneck sweater and the cloud puff cardigan.
