Any daily / family routine? (Breakfast, mindfulness, whatever)

I believe in disposable routines, I start one, then I get bored or lost and start new ones. Same with traditions. What I have understood in recent years is that if I wake up first, the house is just mine for a while, it smells of coffee, and above all, no one asks me questions that I am not ready for.

Favorite time of the day


When it happens, pre-dinner meditation. It's like pressing 'pause' to put the whole day in order, then return to chaos with a rested mind, a whole different story!

The Last new thing you did for the firs time

I ate the first oyster of my life in August, I tried again in September, then again a month ago. The shell of the latter is on the bookshelf. I still don't like the inside... the shell is always very nice.

What is your super power?

I don't think I have any, but I've been making crazy tie dye shirts since 1995, does it count as super power?

Your rules about colors?


No rules, I love and hate all colors, but I have preferences related to materials and functions. I love light blue pajamas, red plastic, fuchsia glass, yolk yellow velvet, teal ceramics, black lettering, burgundy flowers and blue sweaters.

What do you think of fashion? The best and the worst part.

I think I've loved fashion since I was very young. Fashion deals with encoding the set of details that have always captured my attention, as a child I didn't quite understand why. Basically it's a game of combinations to me, and whoever is good at it does it by making everything look beautifully natural. Unfortunately, most people have a very bad opinion of this world and of what goes around it, my personal battle is to make my students understand that there are many people who work hard behind every item of clothing, behind every event.


Design and art enjoy a completely different dignity, I've always wondered why. I think fashion is associated with superficiality, with the ephemeral, for me it is just one of the many variations of the search for beauty that is a fundamental part of the human being.

What is the best part of your work?

Inventing things, creating variations, finding solutions, and above all seeing pieces realized, a kind of magic. I can mix dreams, visions, things seen only once many years ago, and carry all this into the project I'm working on, I'm very lucky!

Your next project?

I just gave birth to Ramiro, a small silk scarf project with free and foolish subjects. But my dream is to produce felt pads for chairs with the face of your ex (or boss, or whoever you like) printed, harmless cruelty, for those like me who are not able to work out real revenge.

Which is the story behind your favourite piece of clothing?

My favorite sweater (I think it is handmade in jaquard) belonged to my partner's grandfather and was used by my mother-in-law on study afternoons at university and is now in my closet, ready to help me on the most tiring days.

Favourite and forbidden colors (on you and in your paintings)


I love the colors of the 80s ski suits and I hate dove gray and in general everything that lives between gray and brown, obviously excluding gray and brown.

About clothing… What comes first? Shape, touch, colors, mood…


Hard to say, perhaps for me the texture. I fall in love with colors or prints, but then I only wear what makes me feel good... if a garment is too stiff, it squeezes me or reveals an inch of skin that I want to keep covered, it's gone, forever.

Do you have a safe “uniform”?


Jeans or very long skirt and men's sweater, foulard.

What makes you feel good?

Colorful blankets, low lights, laughter in the next room, good butter, the smell of watercolor pencils, my children begging for more tickles, immense trees, the flight ladder, Lisbon.

Describe Sartoria Vico in a few words

I know Sartoria Vico since my university years and each piece is a project, I believe this is its strength, I recognize my own approach to things, linked to shape but above all to functionality, durability and well-being released over time. I think this mix makes each of their garments special, and makes you grow fond of them.

Let's break down a myth about knitwear… ( it’s something you know)

Knitwear is not cut and sewn, so for me it is living, more than any of its companions in the wardrobe. When I take home a piece of knitwear I find myself thinking hello, come and stay with me, you'll see you'll be fine, I'll protect you from moths and handle you with care and we'll be together forever. Maybe I'm becoming some kind of knits cat lady :)

RACCONTACI QUALCOSA DI TE E DELLA TUA INFANZIA
Mi chiamo Alessandra, sono nata a Milano 42 anni fa a luglio, da una mamma col pollice verdissimo e un papà che aggiungeva metri quadri alla nostra casa nel finesettimana.
Ho fatto la pendolare professionista dall’hinterland dove ho vissuto fino ai 20 anni circa, poi sono stata ospite della città che piu mi ha amata, Lisbona, per un anno luminoso e infine sono giunta a Milano dove vivo col mio compagno pigro ma genio e i miei bambini frizzantini.
Invento cose per lavoro e mi lamento per passione, cucino perché la famiglia si mantenga sana e in forze e mando vocali infiniti agli amici lontani.
Le piante spesso muoiono senza apparente motivo.

LA TUA ROUTINE QUOTIDIANA?
Credo nelle routine monouso, ne comincio una, poi mi annoio o mi perdo e ne comincio di nuove. Stessa cosa con le tradizioni.
Quello che ho capito negli ultimi anni è che se mi sveglio per prima la casa è solo mia per un po’, profuma di caffè, e soprattutto nessuno mi fa domande a cui non sono pronta.

MOMENTO PREFERITO DELLA GIORANTA?
Quando capita, la meditazione pre cena.
E’ come premere ‘pause’ per rimettere in ordine tutta la giornata per poi ritornare nel caos a mente riposata, tutta un’altra storia!

ULTIMA COSA CHE HAI FATTO PER LA PRIMA VOLTA
Ho mangiato la prima ostrica della mia vita ad agosto, ci ho riprovato a settembre e poi ancora un mese fa. Il guscio di quest’ultima sta sulla libreria.
Continua a non piacermi la parte interna.. il guscio è sempre molto bello.

HAI UN SUPER POTERE?
Non credo di averne, ma faccio magliette tie dye pazzesche dal 1995, vale?

LE TUE REGOLE SUI COLORI?
Nessuna regola, amo e odio tutti i colori, ho delle preferenze legate ai materiali e alle funzioni pero’. 
Amo i pigiami azzurri, la plastica rossa, il vetro fucsia, il velluto giallo tuorlo, le ceramiche verde acqua, le scritte nere, i fiori bordeaux e i maglioni blu.

COSA PENSI DELLA MODA? LA PARTE MIGLIORE E QUELLA PEGGIORE.
Credo di amare la moda da quando sono molto piccola.
Il fashion si occupa di codificare l’insieme di dettagli che hanno sempre catturato la mia attenzione, da piccola non ne capivo bene il motivo. 
Fondamentalmente per me è un gioco di combinazioni, e chi è bravo lo fa facendo sembrare tutto stupendamente naturale.
La maggior parte delle persone purtroppo ha una pessima opinione di questo mondo e di quello che gli gira attorno, è una mia personale battaglia far capire prima di tutto ai miei studenti che c’è tantissima gente che lavora duro dietro ad ogni capo, dietro ad ogni evento.
Il design e l’arte godono di una dignità del tutto diversa, mi sono sempre chiesta il perché. Credo si associ il fashion alla superficialità, all’effimero, per me è solo una delle tante declinazioni della ricerca di bellezza che è parte fondamentale dell’essere umano.

COSA AMI DI PIÙ DEL TUO LAVORO?
Inventare cose, creare varianti, trovare soluzioni, e soprattutto vedere i pezzi realizzati, una specie di magia. Posso mischiare sogni, visioni, cose viste solo una volta tanti anni fa, e trasportare tutto questo nel progetto a cui sto lavorando, sono molto fortunata!

IL TUO PROSSIMO PROGETTO?
Ho appena messo al mondo Ramiro, piccolo progetto di foulard in seta con soggetti liberi e scriteriati.
Ma il mio sogno è sempre quello di produrre feltrini per sedie con stampata la faccia del tuo/tua ex (o capo, o chi ti pare), cattiverie innocue, per quelli che come me non sono in grado di elaborare vere vendette.

CHE STORIA C’È DIETRO AL TUO INDUMENTO PREFERITO?
Il mio maglione preferito (credo sia fatto a mano in jaquard) è appartenuto al nonno del mio compagno e ed è stato usato da mia suocera nei pomeriggi di studio ai tempi dell’università e ora è nel mio armadio, pronto ad aiutarmi nelle giornate più faticose.

COLORI PREFERITI E PROIBITI (SU DI TE E NEI TUOI LAVORI)
Amo i colori delle tute da sci anni ‘80 e detesto il tortora e in generale tutto quello che vive tra il grigio e il marrone, esclusi ovviamente il grigio e il marrone.

A PROPOSITO DI ABBIGLIAMENTO... COSA VIENE PRIMA? FORMA, TATTO, COLORI, STATI D'ANIMO...
Difficile dirlo, forse per me la consistenza.
Mi innamoro dei colori o delle stampe, pero’ poi indosso solo quello che mi fa stare bene.. se un capo è troppo rigido o mi stringe o mi scopre un centimetro di pelle che voglio avere coperta è finita, per sempre.

HAI UNA “DIVISA” PREFERITA?
Jeans o gonna lunghissima e maglione da uomo, foulard.

COSA TI FA STARE BENE?
Le coperte colorate, le luci basse, le risate nella stanza accanto, il burro buono, l’odore delle matite acquarellabili, i miei figli che implorano altro solletico, gli alberi immensi, la scaletta dell’aereo, Lisbona.

DESCRIVI SARTORIA VICO IN POCHE PAROLE
Conosco Sartoria Vico dai tempi dell’università e ogni pezzo è un progetto, credo sia questa la sua forza, ci rivedo il mio stesso approccio alle cose che è legato alla forma ma soprattutto alla funzionalità, alla durata e al benessere che rilascia nel tempo. Penso che sia questo mix che rende speciale ogni loro capo, e ti ci fa affezionare. 

SFATIAMO UN MITO SULLA MAGLIERIA… 
La maglieria non viene tagliata e cucita, quindi per me è un po piu viva di tutti i suoi compagni nel guadaroba.
Io quando mi porto a casa un capo di maglieria mi ritrovo a pensare ciao, vieni a stare da me, vedrai ti troverai bene, ti proteggerò dalle tarme e ti trattero’ con cura e staremo insieme per sempre.
Forse sto diventando una specie di gattara della magliera : )
